Signs Your LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes on one side. A cracked hinge weld lets the gate settle a few degrees, which puts the weight on the far corner instead of the hinge line. The scraping sound is the gate telling you the metal has moved.
- The opener reverses mid-cycle. LiftMaster operators have force-sensing built in. When a bracket flexes or a hinge binds, the operator reads the resistance as an obstruction and backs off. The problem is usually mechanical, not electronic.
- A hinge or bracket shows a hairline crack at the weld. This is the most common failure we see in Laguna Hills, where coastal moisture and temperature swings work on mild steel over the years. Cracks start small and spread quickly once water gets in.

What you can safely do is inspect: check for visible cracks at the welds, watch the gate as it opens to see where it binds, and read the model number off the LiftMaster operator so you can describe the setup when you call. What you should not do is attempt the welding yourself. A gate under tension is not a mailbox. If a hinge weld fails while the gate is off its supports, the gate can drop, and a sliding gate with a broken bracket can roll off its track. Both will injure whoever is standing in the wrong place.
